Reggae Music

Reggae music is a popular music in most of the world; however in Taiwan it is not as popular as rock or pop. Reggae music is a genre that I believe is very essential in the culture of Taiwan because it can relate to everyone whether they are poor or rich or even of different ethnicity. Reggae music originated from the slavery days of Africa where people used to sing while picking cotton and was usually known as slave music, however, as time went on, these, “slavery music,” became popular with the whites and other ethnicity. Old reggae artists such as Bob Marley, Garnett Silk, Buju Banton, Sizzla and many more contributed with the popularity that Reggae has on the world today. Moreover, Reggae music is music that can bring inspiration, motivation and also relaxation to the listeners.
Reggae music is a genre that has helped created many other genres such as Hip/hop, R&B and even Pop. I believe that Reggae music should be introduced more to Taiwan’s society because not only does it help relax the listeners but is a good way of learning a new type of English, a type of English known as Patois. This form of English is commonly spoken among Central Americans and people of the Caribbean Society. It is not a language but more of a dialect such as the Taiwanese language is to Mandarin. I believe that this form of music can be introduced to Taiwan just as it has been introduced to many other Asian countries such as Japan, Philippine, Indonesia and even Malaysia. It is music that can help relax and even make you want to dance.
