I
enjoyed this piece of work by William Chang because I can reflect
on this piece of work and see it occur in my own life. Just recently, I had an
aunt that passed away due to cancer and I feel as if this piece of work had
points in which I can relate to. Points such as the fact that it was a family
gathering once again because my mother whom I haven’t seen for 2 years came
back to Taiwan to attend the funeral and also many of my cousins that lived in
the South also came back. I would say that the funeral was a bittersweet moment
for me and that I cherished the good times and tried to move on from the negativity
of the past.
Furthermore, this piece of work has a
title that I feel catches many people’s attention because at first people would
think, “How can a funeral be sweet?” but after reading it, the reader can not
only understand its meaning but can also relate to it because almost everyone
who attends a funeral have somewhat the same feeling. However, with that being
said I feel as if the author could have also used a title such as, “A
Bittersweet Funeral.” This title is not only shorter but has the same meaning
and effect as his title.
