The Blind Side

"The Blind Side" is certainly a touching story and what makes it more compelling is it's based on a true story. It talk about an affluent white family who takes in a homeless black youth and raises him as their own. We know everyone is equality, but this movie also talks about the issue of racial discrimination. So this movie’s name is "The Blind Side".

Michael is a black boy, who is known initially as "Big Mike" has been abandoned by his drug-addicted mother. He sleeps where he can find a warm place -- a friend's couch, a Laundromat, a school gym. Michael is taken in by the family of Leigh Anne Tuohy, and she let him go to school to study. Michael does not want to integrate into the family at first. He considers that he still a stranger to them. Gradually, he learns how to express his opinions and feelings. One day, the football coach sees potential in him and pressures the school's admissions board to give him a chance. We see Michael turn into a great football player and eventually get a scholarship to college.

The movie shows us that if we are given the chance with will and determination we can do anything that we want no matter what the situation we come from. It also shows that there are people who care about others and use their good situations to help those in need. Michael is given the chance to better his life and when the Tuohy and the teachers at his new school give him the chance he shows that he can do it with a little guidance. He raises his grades, gets into college, and eventually gets drafted to the NFL. It has so many great aspects that we all can take into account with our day to day lives. With the family being so accepting, loving, and open to this boy loving him enough to eventually adopt him. We could learn a few things from this family ourselves. To sum up, "The Blind Side" teaches us not only to love others and treat them like we would like to be treated but also not to judge a person before we know them. The person could be one amazing person just afraid to shine and show their true colors right away. (388 words)
