My Opinions About Plagiarism

We always know that plagiarism is a bad behavior. But sometimes we plagiarize in accident. In this century, the Internet and the media are very popular. They provide the information quickly and fast. We usually get some ideas from them carelessly. So when we talk about plagiarism, we always have a question “How to avoid plagiarism?” I read some articles on some websites. They all first identify the meaning of the word “plagiarism”. One of the articles says “The word plagiarism comes form a Latin word for kidnapping.” As we know, kidnapping means steal a person. So we can know plagiarism means steal something. These things may be a person’s writings, ideas, or opinions. Then, there are some tips in these articles say “Step one: Accentuate the positive. Change your attitude about using citations. Step two: How can I keep track of all this information? Improve your note-taking skills. Step three: So many details, so little time! Locate the appropriate style manual.” First, we should make sure our own points, main ideas, or thesis. We can also share our writings with others. To make sure our own writings can let others think these are not a plagiarism. Second, we take notes carefully is the best way to avoid plagiarism. It also improves our note-taking skills. One of the articles says “If you’ve already taken a step away from the author’s words in your notes, you’ll find it easier to use your own words in the paper you write” Third, if we really need some citations to prove our own opinions. We can use quotation mark in those citations. It’s really the easiest and the most common way to use. In my opinion, plagiarism is a serious thing for me. It’s not fare when a person doing plagiarism, because sometimes we can see a person who plagiarizes gets better grades than a person who don’t plagiarize. It may let people who don’t plagiarize feel uncomfortable and may star plagiarize. Plagiarism also shows a person’s lazy. Copying whole paragraphs from different websites, those people don’t have to spend much time on thinking about the subject. To sum up, plagiarism is not a good way to do.
