Memorizing words is big no no for learning English. In that way, there is no efficiency ,that is to say ,do no good to us. We must have to use the right method.
Take myself for instance, I began from the easiest degree since forth grade of my elementary to the third year of junior high, I learned through fun. Helen gave us recording homework to practice our English speaking. From 10 to 20 times. "Practice makes perfect." Well saying goes. Sometimes she assigned us writing homework. Next time she would test or gave us quizzes, memorizing articles or short dialogue within limited time. We spent lots of holidays together with joys and laughter. It's great fun!!
Listening starting from "Let's Talk In English," program per day. I took my time listening to it. I form a habitual habits listening to English broadcast ICRT. During my senior high,I listened to " Studio Classroom. " It happened to me that I met Linway great teacher,providing his efficient ways for us learning English for lifelong ,not for test. I listen to English songs as my interests. The lyrics run into my head.
Visualization and association is the best way of learning English. Categorizing and divided into groups , keep it in a small book . Reading it from time to time. Gradually ,we'll make progress. Speak English anytime,anywhere. Do free speak whatever it occurred to us ,remember and put it down, that's how idea generates. Create our own surroundings . Be active rather than passive. Find our own interests, watching films or TV Series without looking at the subtitles. Try to pause it every now and then , trying to say something in the films or videos. Other than that, resources are available on the net , grab and digest what we like. Little by little, we would comprehensive.
As for writing , free writing with no feedback. Keep a journal or diary per day , so that can keep track of our own life. Reflection and retrospect can be big help. We may make short sentences to improve writing skills. Write without hesitation.
Participate in contests as possible as we can . I had joined English speech and singing contest before. To gain more experience, I proved myself. To speak in front of audience, stage fright is top priority. I meditate before go on stage, practice very often. Imagine the situation ,trying to predict what would happened . The more experience we obtain, the better we will become.
Make the best of time while waiting for the bus ,stucking in the traffic jam. Good habits are as addictive as bad habits, and a lot more rewarding.
