Tris, she is a girl born in Abnegation, but she chooses Dauntless in her sixteen. Although her father was angry at the moment, he still wants to see her doing well in the faction. Eddie, he is a man who works in Ruby Pier all his life. He hates his father and he isn’t satisfied with his job because he does the same job as his father.
In the “divergent”, there is going to hold a important ceremony when you are sixteen, it means you need to make a choice between family and faction. If Eddie has the opportunity to choose, I think he would choose faction. Because he wants to change his life, he doesn’t want to stay at Ruby pier. If he leaves his family alone, everything would be changed, and he would never know what was happen between his parents and Mickey. For me, I would choose family rather than faction, because every time when I felt disappointed or confused, they always tried to help me figure it out and consoled me. So, I think that Eddie and Tris are the divergent!
In the “the five people you meet in heaven”, there are Blue man, Captain, Ruby, Eddie’s wife and Tala. They are waiting for Eddie when Eddie is dead. I think that it is a challenge for Eddie and he must forgive someone and tries to let someone forgive him with what he had done. For example, Eddie hates his father all his life until he meet Ruby who tell him” forgive, Edward. Forgive, that’s because no one is born with anger.”, and he choose to forgive his dad. For Tris, she also needs to face the challenge, but when she does it, she is alive rather than dead. She must face her fear and proof herself that what she chosen was right. And I think that there is no parents who don’t love their children and his father forgive her and having to work is his excuse since he is too shy to say embarrassed words. So, there is a challenge for Eddie and Tris, and they need to solve it.
Captain shot Eddie’s leg when they are in danger, and when Eddie knew it, he was really irritating, and he thought that Captain destroy his life. With his leg crippled, he can’t change a job and leave Ruby Pier. And Tris was attacked by Peter, AL and Drew, they were afraid of her, because they thought she is a potential contender. Without her, Peter may win the championship easily. So, Eddie and Tris are hurt in the procedure.
Four like Tris, and I really think that they may be the couple when Tris win the final test. The divergent is unpredictable because the content is a little crazy. For instance, no one will jump to the ground when the train is moving! Eddie still loved his wife although she died in her forty-seven. When he meet her in heaven, they talked a lot, and she said”Life has to end .love doesn’t”. It’s hard to imagine how could he live without his wife for more than thirty years. So, love is essential for people, not only for young people but also for old people.
Then, Tris was a selfish girl when she chose Dauntless, and her brother chose Erudite. His father tell them that how the Erudite attack Abnegation. So, I can imagine how angry their father was when her brother chose Erudite. Eddie was brave and unselfish when he tried to solve the girl who was upon the ride's metal base. It is really kind for Eddie and I think he like kids although he doesn't have any son or daughter. So, Tris and Eddie are brave. Eddie is unselfish while Tris is selfish!
If Tris live in a real world, she would be a soldier or police officer. She is brave enough to suffer from pain during the training. And I believe she will become stronger and do well in the group. Then, if Eddie lives in 2012, his leg would probably not be crippled. In nowadays, surgeon's skill is greater than ever before, hence, his leg will be recovered.
So, what I learnt from these books? First, I learned that sometimes you just need a little insane courage to do something different. And your life will totally be changed. Ten years later, when you remind of what you had done, you may be regret, but it is an important memory at least. Like Tris, she leaves her family, but she doesn't regret .Second, I learned that hating someone is poison; it hurt you eternally until you forgive him. For example, Eddie hates his dad all his life, but he doesn't get any profit. He didn't get over it until Ruby told him. Third, being weak is greater than being strong. Human who is jealous of your strong ability will do something bad to you and try to beat you at first. So, you don't want to be a loser at first. That's why people usually said "Be modest all the time!"
I think that both of "divergent" and "the five people you meet in heaven" are not difficult for us to read. Divergent is so interesting that I like the unpredictable setting. And the “five people you meet in heaven", when I read it, I must be patient because the plots are so smooth.
