A Letter of Apollo to Daphne

Dear Daphne:
My name is Phoebus Apollo, the son of Zeus. I was born in the little island of Delos. I’ve been called “the most Greek of all the gods.” I’m also the master musician and the first one who taught human beings the healing art! I’m the Lord of Light, so there is no darkness in the whole world. I may bring the sunlight for your life, lets you are far away from darkness! I’m also the God of Truth. No false word ever falls from my lips, so I can tell everything you want to know!
When I first saw you, you were hunting, you r dress short to the knee, your arms bare, your hair in wild disarray, and I was attracted by this view. So I decided to pursue you. I know you want freedom very much, and you didn’t want any mortal lovers either. But I can not give up pursue you, hope you can accept me!
You ran away while you saw me, it’s really hurt. I want to catch you, but you scream to me. And you asked for your father’s help. I saw your feet seemed rooted in the earth, you had been changed into a tree, a laurel.

I was really dismay and grief about the transformation. You are my first lover, but you are lost to me, but at least you shall be my tree. With your leaves my victors shall wreathe their brows. I want to share all the triumphs to you!   (253)
