My reflection on the topic Overall Crime and Safety Situation in Belize

Belize is a beautiful country that is found in the Central American and it is bordered by the Caribbean Sea to its East, Guatemala to its West and Mexico to its North. This beautiful country is a place where I grew up for most of my life. I spent 22 years in Belize, I went to Belize at the age of 3 months and since then it has changed drastically. Belize is known for its wild terrains, exotic wildlife, beautiful beaches and friendly society, but there is a disease within the country that is tearing it apart, crime.
Belize is ranked as the 6th most dangerous country in the world with the second highest murder rate in the Caribbean. There are approximately 39 homicides per 100,000 residents. This extract makes me feel ashamed sometimes to introduce my country to the others because it is not something to be proud of, however it is reality. Moreover this extract shows that not only are murders gang related but also through robberies and just mere differences that people have that cannot be put aside.
I feel that Belize is a country that has potential to do great things in the future if this problem is solved, but I know that it is up to the people within the country to try to come together as one to bring about a better and more peaceful environment to the next generation and also to set an example for other high murder rate countries that good can come out of bad.
