What

When I first time went to Yusheng elementary school, I found that this was a little school with little students, and the students’ knowledge of English was different with each other. I was the teacher of the students in 5 grades and 6 grades; therefore, I decided to combine our teaching materials with the games or some current affairs in each teaching period. In our first teaching day, because of the fame of Linsanity, we brought the children to the basketball court, and taught them how to say the basic terms of basketball in English. In our second teaching day, we hoped that we could cultivate the international perspective for the children, so we taught them nations and nationalities.

 

So What

In our first teaching, we combined our materials with current affairs—Linsanity. We brought them to the basketball court, and taught them the full name of the abbreviations and the meaning about the main basketball players in English. We also taught them some common abbreviation which may appear in the NBA games. In our second teaching, we tried to teach our students how to describe the nations and nationalities. We used several pictures of flags to help them remember the nations and nationalities. The main purpose of our teaching was to establish the interest in English for children.


New What

During the teaching, I realize that being a teacher is the greatest thing of the world. Teachers need to use their observation on the students, and must be careful what they say to their students because what teacher says, the students will totally accept it. These experiences really teach me a lot, and let me recall that I used to be a little child and learned English just like them. This notion gives me a strong motivation to help my students really learn something during my teaching. And, I find that when students really remember what I say during the class, I will feel happy, and start thinking what else I can teach, or what else I should do to make them feel that learning English is not difficult as them think.

This activity is a wonderful experience for me. It helps me to face my weak point of getting alone with children, and give me a chance to learn how to be a teacher. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to experience this meaningful activity.
