It reminds me a short story my mother had told me when I was a little girl. It was called “The cobbler turned into a doctor.” The story was about a poor cobbler who moved to another town because he could not make a living by his bad skill to mend shoes. He sold medicines in the town and claimed that his medicine was effective in all kinds of symptoms. He even named for himself as a miracle-working doctor. The residents in the town believed in him so he made lots of money until one day he caught a cold seriously. A governor passed by and heard that the cobbler sold the” magic medicines,” so he determined to test the cobbler’s highly skill. The governor took a cup and filled it with water. And then he pretended that it was a cup of fatal poison. He commanded the cobbler to drink it and cured himself using the “magic medicines.” Under the fear of death, the cobbler confessed that he had no knowledge of medicine, and was only made famous by the foolish residents. The governor blamed the residents” How fool have you been cheated? You have no hesitated to entrust your heads to a cobbler who was even unable to make shoes feet.”
