I think if I could, I want to help a lot of people who need my help. Now I am just a student, and I don’t have a job so I cannot donate my money to the poor, but I can afford my time to help them. Every Friday afternoon, I go to Yu-Sheng elementary school and accompany with students, whose ages are between eight to twelve years old. There are over twenty students that almost are single-parent or poor and there are almost ten volunteers. It seems we teach and accompany with them, in fact, we learn more from those children.
Everyone should not look down upon themselves. I don’t know these children’s backgrounds very clearly, but I know they all are poor children. One of children is called Tina who is the first student I met. I teach her and chat with her. Sometimes after I chat with her, I always feel sad. She is a smart and cute girl, but she always look down upon herself. She thought she shouldn’t live in this world, and it doesn’t mind if she died. Parents gave our lives and naturally we should cherish our lives. No one can look down upon himself.
Moreover, we cannot deny a person just due to his disadvantages. No one is perfect but people still have their unique values. When I do reports with my friend, I cannot stand the guys who are not active. One of my partners, called Jerry, is the kind. I don’t like his attitude, doing the reports, but I won’t deny his value. I know he is just not good at doing report, but he is good at playing saxhorn and dreams to be a musician. I can’t think he is stupid or useless just due to his disadvantages.
Being a volunteer is a special experience to me. I faced different children and knew their different life experiences. It touched me a lot and changed my initial negative opinions. I want to be a positive person and help more people. I want more people to know that life is very important and valuable. We should not look down upon ourselves and live colorful life.
