Many students, starting from junior high all the way to college have at least plagiarized once in their school career. Plagiarizing is a serious crime that deserves severe punishment. We as students were taught from a young age that plagiarizing is a bad act and shouldn’t be done at all. As we start to get into high school and college, we have more assignments that require us to write essays on a piece of literature. Many times, it’s hard for us to read a piece of literature and come up with our own analysis on it. Therefore, we use what’s available to us (ex: the Internet) and search for other people’s idea and turn their work and words in as our own. Of course, I know that this is something that shouldn’t be done. Our teacher encourages us to think outside the box and come up with anything that we can think of. As long as it can be backed up by evidence, it can be passed as a correct analysis. I think that if you have absolutely no idea what to write about, you can take a look at another person’s analysis and then slowly form your own opinion and write in your own words what your thoughts are. As long as you don’t take another person’s word for word, then you won’t be committing the crime of plagiarizing.
