English Vinglish

I have watched a quite interesting Bollywood movie, English Vinglish, these days. Since it is a comedy, there are lots of funny scenes in the film.

The story is about a beautiful household named Shashi Godbole. She is good at cooking, especially an Indian dessert called Laddu. Owing to her busy working husband, she has to take care of her daughter and little son mostly by herself. In addition, her husband and her children can talk in English pretty well, but she can only speak Hindi and with a poor English. Her daughter even laughs at her poor English speaking skill. Therefore, Shashi was sad about this and felt not being respected by her children.

One day, the family got a call from Shashi’s elder sister, who lived in New York, said that her daughter is going to hold a wedding ceremony, and invited the family to join the wedding. Moreover, Shashi has to go to New York first and help them with the ceremony. After arriving in New York, she was ashamed on her poor English. Thus, she decided to go to an English learning center for a four-week course secretly. Her niece surprisingly found out that Shashi was learning English, and then she helped with her English.

On the wedding day, all of her family was here. And her niece invited her classmates and teacher from the English center to join the wedding. Someone asked Shashi to give a short talk to bless the couple. Hence, she gave a short talk in English, which she had prepares for days. All of her family was surprised by her English, especially her husband and her daughter. They then showed their apology and grateful to their beloved wife and mother.

I found that this was a motivated movie. It gave me some motivations like I have to figure out my life by myself and I have to fight for it. The movie also proved that there is never too late to learn things just that you have to move on and believe in yourself. If you are not satisfied with things that happened around you, you have to find out some ways to live a better life. Step out your comfort zone and you will find something new out there.
