One Day

I recently saw a movie named “One Day.” At first I thought it was a romantic love movie and it is a romantic love movie but it turned out had a sad ending, not exactly as I expect. One Day is a film adapted from a novel of the same name.
Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew meet after their university graduation on 15 July 1988. They spend the night together but agree to be friends. They decide to meet once in a while throughout the years. Then one year later, Emma is working as a waitress in a Mexican restaurant in London and Dexter is travelling the world, drinking and promiscuously going through several girlfriends. Eventually Dexter becomes a wealthy and highly successful television presenter on a late night show. Emma meets a comedian who she doesn’t find funny. The two start dating anyway and she becomes a school teacher.
Dexter has drug problems after he becomes famous. Emma is growing steadily. And she and Dexter organize a meeting over dinner. Dexter gets high from drugs, insults Emma, shows his interest to other girls and generally ignores Emma most of the time. After this dinner they break off their friendship entirely.
A few years later, Emma’s former roommate gets married and both she and Dexter are invited to the wedding. There she discovers that Dexter now has a new fiancée and is on the way to becoming a father. But Dexter learns his fiancée is actually having an affair with an old friend of his. They divorce after a while.
Emma moved to Paris and becomes a published author. Dexter visits her and in the hope that they will get together again. Over the next few years, they become engaged and marry, Dexter runs his own café which proves to be very lucrative, and they start trying to have their own baby. They are unsuccessful. While riding her bike out of a blind alley, Emma is hit by a truck and dies.
The ending of this film is really touching. You will feel the film is flowing with the time but right now, this moment, each beautiful memory are stopped. I really like the author’s idea about seize the day; seize the moments and the unalterable love of Emma to Dexter. We should really be grateful and appreciate people that around us and love us. Usually when you realized how much they love you it is already too late.
