The clock was tick-tock. I opened my eyes,
tossed and turned restlessly, and couldn’t fall asleep. However, the time was
midnight. I think the main reason was that I will visit one of my best friends
- Connie, who lives in Tainan, in the tomorrow morning. Although Tainan is just
next to my hometown – Chiayi, I never go there. If someone ask me why I don’t
visit Tainan, I think I can’t answer any words to explain the reasons. To me,
it was the FIRST time to plan a trip by myself. Therefore, I was very nervous
and excited. Honestly speaking, I could not imagine I will go to Tainan until I
sat on the train. At this moment, I really had a sense of reality. I started my
two days and one night trip.
The trip can be
separated into three parts: delectable food, historic monuments, and Connie’s
family. As the saying goes that bread is the staff of life. Hence, arriving in
Tainan, my principal task was to eat traditional foods. In Tainan, there is a
famous food you can not miss. That is shrimp
rolls. The store was full of people so Connie and I stood a while to wait
seats. Many celebrities also visited this store because I saw their signatures
on the wall, such as Ying-jiou Ma, Sa Sa, a host of food program, and May Day,
a famous rock band in Taiwan. Then, we went to eat a snack – dou hua. What the
special is that it is hand-made and uses soya bean milk instead of
syrup. The evening was coming. There was a place where was filled with people,
can eat foods, and play games. That was Garden Night Market, the most famous
one in Tainan. I ate a snack which I ate fist time. This snack was sweet potato
with sugar. When I ate, the inside was soft but the outside was crunchy. In
this day, I was always full so my weight will be higher than before.
Everyone knows Tainan is a historic and long city. It was
colonized by Japan and Holland. Besides eating delicate food, I also visited
many monuments. The first one I went to was Anping Fort, which was built by the
Dutch in 1624. Inside the fort, there was a special wall, built by glutinous
rice and syrup. Another was Chin- Kan Lou. This monument also existed during
the Dutch period. It was a center of administration in Taiwan at that time. The
last one was Aping Shu-wu, which was my favorite place to visit. Its feature is
that the building is symbiotic with banyan
tree. Some parts of walls are roots instead of bricks. Some parts of roofs are branches. The Shu-wu
is so huge and old. Therefore, when I stepped into there, I felt I soaped in phytoncide. Although the time improves, Tainan does not destroy it original
face and feature. Tainan is a modern and ancient city.
When I went to Tainan, I did not live in the hotel. These
two days, I stayed In Connie’s home. The first impression of her home was clean
and tidy. Her mother kept everything well. Her family also were very friendly
and hospital. There are five people in her family: her father, her mother,
older sister, younger brother and herself. It is almost the same as my family.
The only difference is that I am the oldest daughter in my family. Her father
is like my father. They both look majestic, but they are good and excellent
fathers. Connie’s mother is petite and cheerful. Her mother’s emotion can
influence other people, including me. Connie also told me that her mother was a
clown in their family. As I was in Connie’s home, her mother must ask me a
question - Are you hungry? In fact, I felt full all the time. Everything time
when I had not digested, I would eat another. I knew her mother really cared
about me. In the evening, two girls, Connie and I, were in the room. What could
we do? Of course, that was chatting. We chatted about many themes from our
childhood to our family. I did not know how long we talked to each other. The
only thing I knew was that both of us fell asleep.
In these two short days, I was very substantial and
pleasant. I almost visited where I should go and eat what I should eat.
Certainly, I also bought some kinds of famous foods in Tainan – shrimp cookies
and Yi Lei Te. When I would leave Connie’s home, there was a funny situation.
At the beginning, I went to Tainan with a package. Nevertheless, I went back to
my home with my original package, six pomelos, several pieces of tablecloths,
and a bowl of noodles. Connie’s mother prepared that noodles because she was
afraid that I would feel hungry on my way to home. I have to thank for Connie
and her family. Because of them, I have a wonderful trip in the end of summer
vocation. (852 words)
That's a fruitful trip indeed.
